The “greatest” city in the world can’t make your trip great if you don’t know how to experience it. New York City has a lot to offer if you’re looking for great food, views and just places to have crazy fun. We’ve summed up some of the best places to spend your time in the Big Apple.
In the daytime, you can visit the 9/11 Memorial or sail by the Statue of Liberty on the Shearwater (weather permitting). My favorite way to get to know this part of the city is on bikes. When you are cruising around, visit some of my favorite parks, Rockefeller Park and the playgrounds along the river, and as you head north on the West Side Highway, don’t miss Pier 25, which has a playground and mini-golf. When you finish exploring and the kids (or the adults!) are tired, grab a good, casual and quick meal from Brookfield Place dining at Hudson Eats. Not your typical mall food court, it has something for everyone, from Blue Ribbon Sushi to Skinny Pizza. This fun stop also looks over the Hudson River, which is gorgeous around sunset. Tip: bike rentals are available through Citibike or Bike & Roll, which has tandems and trailers for younger tots.
Looking for a casual day to walk around, shop a little, and have some fun? Head to the Union Square Farmer’s Market. They have the most beautiful display of fruits, veggies, baked goods, and snacks. There is a park and a playground in the center, and it is surrounded by delicious vendors and cobblestone streets, plus some of your favorite shops. You may even be able to find a quick meal there, but if you can’t, worry no more. ABC Kitchen is so delicious that you will want to go back every night on your stay. They mix healthy food with fun, complex flavors that you will go crazy for! The freshness, strong flavors, and nice setting will have your heart, but it is a little fancy.
Museum of Math? You will surprisingly lose yourself in fun games and puzzles, and your kids may never want to leave! That is, of course, until they hear that you are taking them to Mario Batali’s Eataly. This huge market full of delicious Italian foods and different departments, such as the pasta department, pizza department, etc. You can eat in one of the restaurants, which makes up for a perfect meal and an unforgettable day.
When the weather is nice, walk along the Highline and see the beautiful flowers and plants. You can also ride bikes along the West Side bike path to get there! Even when the sun isn’t out, the views are great, and you can get delicious snacks sold around the Highline. Have lunch in the Chelsea Market, a New York City must, with cool decorations during the holidays and delicious restaurants and markets. You can always find something to eat there with kids.
UPPER WEST SIDE
Another NYC must with kids is the American Museum of Natural History, which is full of cool discoveries and a lot of learning even though it’s masked under all the fun. While you’re there, you can’t miss an unbelievable IMAX film! When you think you’ve had enough museum-ing in one day, grab dinner at Kefi. The food is delicious and flavorful, a perfect end to a perfect day.
